A Bit of Apricot

A Bit of Apricot

Through the leaves, catching a glimpse of the moonlight—oh, how I know it is now fall

There is more punch here than with, say, a color like pumpkin. It takes my mind to the season calmly, while still with a sense of freshness. Pair it with a citron yellow and now you have the palette for fall, but not necessarily in the proper hue. They point us in the direction but tell us there is still some waiting to do.

A sense of life to autumn before it all really starts to die.

This sense of "here-but-just" can be had with this expression:

Through the leaves, catching a glimpse of the moonlight—oh, how I know it is now fall

The translation is my own. Crafted with fine poetic license. I tried to be subtle with the 心づくし and rendered it emotively in "oh, how!" How would you render it? Give it a go. Call it your challenge. Just no AI, please. Use the heart and your Japanese sensibilities.

Let us take this feeling further with that parallel realm. Last time, we set out to practice the ghoulishness of the season. This week, we apply it to our sixth sense.

Yes. With these precious creatures. But we must move beyond the realm of Disney to an historical understanding of fairies. (Do not roll your eyes! I can feel you judging me.) Just stop and give this a read. You will be surprised at what is there and maybe even why. As we spoke about before in the Bonds Among Us, it is hard to explain the things one hears and sees in the night—especially when reason fails.

Things in the Night.

Reason truly is weak. Humanity's great challenge is to build it, paring back layer after layer of magical thinking. When reason does leave a gap, we fill it. With spirits. With fairies. With God.

the God of the Gaps.

All that is mysterious is the hand of God. And thus God becomes just an infinitely receding idea.

We approach that thinking with Mary Shelley's 1818 horror novel, Frankenstein. Man striving to be more, do more, draw closer and closer to God. And the consequence?...
