私の感覚では、もう初夏です。
けれど日本人の友人たちに言わせれば、それは違うらしい。まず梅雨が来る。そしてその後に夏が来る。そう考えるのが自然なのだそうです。
言われてみれば、その通りかもしれません。
ならば今回は少し視点を変えてみましょう。
雨の季節から夏へ。
蛍の光から台風の気配へ。
そんな、季節の移ろいを感じさせる空気。
今回は、その季節を英語で味わうための学習ガイドです。

I often have arguments with Japanese friends over it: the seasons, and precisely when one begins and another ends.
To my Western sensibilities, this is already early summer. To many of my Japanese friends, that is nonsense. First comes the rainy season. Then comes summer. To say otherwise is simply un-Japanese.
And perhaps they have a point.
So I shall adjust my scope: through the rains and into summer. From the fireflies to the threat of typhoons. That something in the air.
