SEED of THOUGHT: Force and Flow
雛祭りのあと — After Hina-matsuri
The dolls are returned to their boxes — lest your daughters marry late! And one of those quintessential Japanese observances comes to a close. Yet the season, despite the late snow here and there, does not really return to winter. Something has shifted.
The narcissus are everywhere. The plum buds first, and now the peach begin to swell. The afternoons are surprisingly bright. The air carries that faint warmth. The change whether you like it or not, just occurs.
And yet history reminds us that force can also create change. Borders move. Regimes fall. Change can be imposed.
The seed this time is to ruminate on that difference: between going with the flow and making it.
Is growth something that emerges, or something engineered?
Is force always violent? Or can it be generative? How do you balance the two?
As a meditation, consider a painting discussed in the Late Winter Collection here — Delacroix’s Two Horses Fighting in a Stormy Landscape (1828). Or find your own image where energy feels palpable.
Consider the touch, the momentum, how the artist coerced it all into being.
After sitting with these tensions — season and war, bud and battlefield — explore:

今回の種（seed）は、その違いを反芻すること。「流れに身を任せる」ことと、「流れをつくる」ことのあいだを。
成長とは、自然に立ち上がってくるものなのか――それとも設計されるものなのか。
力は常に暴力なのか。それとも何かを生み出す力にもなり得るのか。あなたはその二つを、どう釣り合わせているだろうか。
瞑想として、Late Winter Collection で取り上げた一枚の絵を思い出してほしい――ドラクロワ《嵐の風景の中で争う二頭の馬》（1828年）。あるいは、エネルギーが肌で感じられるような別のイメージを探してみてもいい。

Wrestle with questions like:
- When does change feel organic in your life?
- When does it feel imposed?
- Is stability a virtue or a refusal to move?
- Can peace be a form of force?

■ Make It Real
- Step outside now, tomorrow, during a lunch break, from the window of your train. Notice one sign of winter’s retreat. Is it dramatic or subtle?
- Find an image, a painting, a photograph, even a news clip that captures motion. Ask: Is this natural flow, or contrived force?
- Journal your thoughts:
- A paragraph describing change as inevitable.
- A paragraph describing change as imposed.
- Read them aloud. Which feels more honest?
Share your thoughts or keep them private. Just do the work in English if you can. And as always, place your reflection somewhere respectful, somewhere you can return to and reconsider with fresh eyes.
The dolls have been put away. The season advances regardless. So must we.
