The world is unusually hot at present. First Europe, then much of the United States, have found themselves prisoners to prolonged heatwaves and oppressive heat domes. This is made worse by climate change, of course, but also other bits of weather phenomenon such as El Niño. A sadness, yes; but also a source of exploration. Thus, our seed of thought!

A VISUAL FRAMEWORK

A perfect artistic pairing of late is a pointillist piece from Neo-Impressionist, Henri-Edmond Cross: The Evening Air (1893). It captures – to me – the fatigue of sun-battered bodies seeking refuge under the trees along a coastline. Very summer. Very much oppressive heat. The pointillism lends it the muddled air of humidity, similarly conjuring ideas of a mosaic, maybe from an antiquarian estate – a Roman villa, perhaps.
