芽生えやつながりの感覚。フォーヴィスム作品に流れる人間らしさ。フランク・ロイド・ライトの有機的建築。そして谷崎潤一郎の随想に見られる、質感、影、空気感、生活空間へのまなざし。そうした感覚が、この街の中でさまざまな形で交差していきます。

長年ライトの工房が置かれ、多くの建築や思想が育まれたシカゴは、建築、音楽、食文化、都市景観、そして Americana を英語とともに探るための自然な舞台になります。未来の旅のアイデアとして、あるいは週末に少しだけ知的な動きや刺激を加えるための、小さな「思考の旅」にもぴったりの場所です。

今回のコレクションには、食、音楽、建築、都市の空気感をめぐる豊かな英語表現に満ちた動画を8本収録しています。語彙セクションでは skyscraper から ethnic enclave まで、シカゴの精神から生まれた45の単語と表現を収録。観察、会話、ライティング、そして日々の思索にも広く応用できる言葉を集めました。

The themes we have been exploring this late spring seem to converge naturally in the land of Chicago.

The sense of emergence and connectedness. The human element running through the Fauvist works. The organic architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Even some of the musings of Tanizaki: texture, shadow, atmosphere, lived space. They all seem to meet here in different forms.

Home to Wright’s workshop for many years, and many of his architectural works and ideas, Chicago becomes a natural stage. Rounded out by music, food, the modern cityscape, and an overall sense of quintessential Americana, this may very well be the perfect place for a small excursion of the mind, perhaps an actual adventure, or simply a way to inject a little movement and curiosity into the weekend.

Inside this collection are eight carefully selected videos rich with expressions surrounding food, music, architecture, and urban atmosphere. The vocabulary collection gathers 45 words and phrases — from skyscraper to ethnic enclave — language drawn from the spirit of Chicago, but widely applicable to your own observations and journaling.

The Use It or Lose It section then sends you out on a kind of Chicago fieldwork adventure from home: recipes that scream “Chicago,” music explorations born from the city itself, and small cultural excursions designed to make the language tangible.
